AI Policy Roundtable at Google Indonesia
On September 18, 2025, the Computer Science Program at BINUS University International was honored to participate in the AI Policy Roundtable hosted at Google Indonesia. This event served as a crucial platform for dialogue between academic institutions, industry experts, and policymakers to address the challenges and opportunities surrounding artificial intelligence (AI) in today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape.
The roundtable opened with discussions on the growing influence of AI in daily life and its implications for national policy. Experts highlighted both the promises and potential risks of emerging technologies, emphasizing the importance of responsible governance frameworks. For students and faculty of BINUS University International, the workshop offered valuable exposure to how theory in computer science intersects with real-world regulatory and ethical considerations.
One of the central themes discussed was the balance between innovation and accountability. While AI holds the potential to transform industries such as healthcare, finance, and education, it also raises pressing concerns regarding privacy, bias, and transparency. Participants explored how Indonesia, as a developing economy with a dynamic digital ecosystem, can play a proactive role in shaping inclusive AI policies that reflect local and global needs.
BINUS University International’s involvement in the event underscores its academic mission to prepare graduates who are not only skilled in technological expertise but also attuned to societal impact. By engaging in conversations with thought leaders from Google and other stakeholders, students gained insights into how interdisciplinary perspectives are essential in crafting sustainable AI solutions. Such experiences extend beyond the classroom, equipping future computer scientists with the ethical and policy-oriented mindset needed in the digital era.
This participation not only reflects BINUS University International’s dedication to academic excellence but also its broader vision of fostering responsible global citizens. By engaging in initiatives like the AI Policy Roundtable, the university demonstrates its commitment to promoting technological innovation that is ethical, inclusive, and sustainable.
