The Computer Science Program of BINUS INTERNATIONAL Launches SheCodes Society Digital Leadership Academy to Empower Women in Technology

Jakarta, Indonesia – August 19, 2024 – BINUS International, a leading institution in technology education, is proud to announce the launch of the SheCodes Society Digital Leadership Academy. This initiative, driven by the Computer Science Program at BINUS International, aims to empower women in technology by equipping them with essential technical and soft skills necessary for leadership roles in the industry.

Despite the promising statistic that women accounted for 55% of STEM graduates in Indonesia in 2020, their participation in STEM careers remains disproportionately low, with only 3 out of 10 choosing to pursue these fields. This disparity highlights the urgent need to bridge the gap between education and career representation. The SheCodes Society Digital Leadership Academy is dedicated to addressing this issue by providing targeted training and mentorship to women in technology.

The program will consist of a comprehensive 6 courses over 13 weeks covering crucial areas such as data visualization, artificial intelligence, cloud services, leadership, public speaking, and storytelling. By focusing on both technical and soft skills, the academy aims to prepare participants not just for immediate career opportunities, but for long-term leadership roles in the tech industry.

“Empowering women in tech is not just about providing them with technical knowledge. It’s about fostering leadership, confidence, and the ability to drive innovation in the industry,” said Nunung Nurul Qomariyah, Ph.D the head of the SheCodes Society initiative at BINUS.

Inclusivity in technology is not just a matter of social justice; it’s a business imperative. Companies that prioritize diversity are better positioned to understand and serve a broader market, attract top talent, and increase their overall value, which in turn enhances trust and loyalty from stakeholders. On a larger scale, the inclusion of women in technology can contribute to overall economic growth and higher GDP.

The SheCodes Society Digital Leadership Academy officially launched on Monday, August 19, 2024, at the Auditorium BINUS @Senayan FX Campus, FX Sudirman 6th Floor, Jakarta. The event will feature a panel discussion, Q&A session, and networking opportunities, bringing together university students, professionals, academics to discuss the importance of gender diversity in STEM, mentorship from prominent leaders in industry, and creating supportive society for greater inclusivity. This event also collaborates with Google Developer Student Clubs BINUS International, Robogals Jakarta AsiaPacific, IEEE Women in Engineering.

The launch event marks the beginning of a broader initiative aimed at positioning SheCodes Society as a leader in promoting diversity and inclusion in STEM fields. Over the coming weeks, the academy will focus on engaging with university students and faculty, particularly those majoring in STEM subjects, to generate awareness and interest in this important cause.
