Teaching the Digital Technology Landscape in Indonesia for Macquarie University Students

November 19, 2025. BINUS University International hosted an insightful academic session titled “Teaching the Digital Technology Landscape in Indonesia” for visiting students from Macquarie University, Australia. The event took place on November 19, 2025 at the FX Campus, a strategic hub for BINUS International’s global engagement and interdisciplinary learning activities.

The session was led by Feri Setiawan, Ph.D, a lecturer in Computer Science at BINUS University International known for his expertise in distributed systems, cloud technologies, and digital innovation ecosystems. Dr. Setiawan delivered an in-depth overview of Indonesia’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, highlighting key developments in technology adoption, government digitalization initiatives, and the vibrant start-up ecosystem that has positioned Indonesia as one of Southeast Asia’s key digital economies.

Throughout the lecture, Macquarie University students were introduced to several pivotal themes:

• Indonesia’s Digital Transformation Roadmap
  An exploration of national strategies supporting digital infrastructure, smart cities, AI adoption, and Industry 4.0 initiatives.

• Tech Start-up Dynamics
  Insights into unicorn and decacorn growth, investment trends, and the entrepreneurial culture that drives digital innovation across major Indonesian cities.

• Digital Workforce and Skills Development
  Discussion on the increasing demand for talent in software engineering, data science, cybersecurity, and cloud computing.

• Challenges and Opportunities in the Indonesian Market
  An examination of digital inequality, regulatory frameworks, and opportunities for international collaboration.

The event served as an academic bridge between Indonesia and Australia, allowing visiting students to gain contextual understanding of the country’s technological progress, socio-economic drivers, and innovation potential.
