Guest Lecturer for Macquarie University Students @Binus Senayan

Overseas Program BINUS University International hosted students from Macquarie University, Australia, at BINUS Senayan campus for orientation sessions 22 June to 26 June 2025, as part of a broader collaboration running until 23 July. The program offered a mix of cultural exploration and academic engagement designed to introduce the Australian students to Indonesia’s vibrant culture and dynamic IT landscape.
On Monday, 23 June, the program kicked off with a full-day Jakarta city tour, starting from Artotel and continuing to the historic Kota Tua district. Participants enjoyed a traditional Indonesian jamu at Acaraki, followed by more cultural and urban exploration in the afternoon. The day concluded with a visit to Jakarta Cathedral and Istiqlal Mosque.

The next day, Tuesday, 24 June, students walked to the BINUS JWC Campus where the day began with an opening and orientation session about BINUS University, Indonesia and particularly Jakarta. Opening remarks delivered by Ms Yenny Chen on behalf of BINUS University International and Mr. Alex Wong on behalf of Macquarie University.

Following a short tour of the facilities in BINUS @ Senayan JWC Campus, participants attended Class led by Ms Andari Karinina Anom, who talk about Indonesian Culture. Ms Karin also talks about traditional Indonesian clothing and a brief preview of Indonesian history.
After lunch the first Bahasa Indonesia for Foreigners class commence, delivered by Mr Hendra and Mr Vincent from the Humaniores department. The day ended with leisure time at the Senayan City Area and Welcoming Dinner sampling fusion Indonesian food at Remboelan Restaurant before returning to their accommodation.

On Wednesday, 25 June, the group returned to JWC Campus for Class on IT Landscape in Indonesia, delivered by Ms Nunung Nurul Qomariah, PhD. Ms Nurul talks about the national startup ecosystem and the digital maturity in Indonesia. She also introduces the Macquarie students about SheCodes society and offers a possibility of collaboration with Macquarie.

The last two sessions of Class Bahasa Indonesia for Foreigners are held on the afternoon of the 25 June and the morning of 26 June. The closing session was a cooking class, where the MQ students made condiments for Indonesian traditional tumpeng. The students were taught on the significance of tumpeng to celebration ceremonies in Indonesia.

The four-day orientation program successfully laid a strong foundation for the students’ upcoming joint projects with BINUS peers, equipping them with cultural context and insights into Indonesia’s tech sector.
