International Science Partnership Fund (ISPF) Research Translation Workshop

On March 11, 2025, Binus University International FX Campus in Jakarta became the hub for a crucial discussion on advancing research impact, as it hosted the International Science Partnership Fund (ISPF) Research Translation Workshop. Themed “Capacity Building Programme in Research and Innovation”, the workshop focused on “Measuring Social Value in Research Translation.”
This initiative, spearheaded by the British Council, aligns with its mission to foster international collaboration in higher education and science. The event is a follow-up to the Research Translation Baseline Study conducted by the University of East Anglia Consultancy (UEAC) in Indonesia and Malaysia in 2024. Funded by the UK Government’s ISPF, this study developed a tool using a social value model to assess research translation efforts, measuring their effectiveness in strengthening the economy and improving community well-being.
Key discussions included:
- Analysing Pre-Workshop Survey Results – Understanding challenges in embedding a research translation culture.
- Tracking Research Translation Activities – Identifying best practices to measure and enhance research impact.
- Knowledge Exchange with Norwich Research Park Experts – Learning from international research translation models.
- Addressing Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) in Grant Applications – Exploring practical applications of the Horizon Europe Gender Equality Plan.
- Training on the SoVaR Tool – Introducing a method to measure the social value of research.
The workshop aimed to equip researchers and innovators with tools to translate research into actionable solutions that benefit society and influence policy. By leveraging baseline data and applying social value principles, the initiative seeks to:
- Strengthen future research grant applications.
- Enhance the quality and relevance of research innovation.
- Foster collaboration between Indonesian researchers and UK experts.
- Provide concrete recommendations for improving research initiatives.
With a focus on four key ISPF themes—health, planet, tech, and talent, the workshop reinforced UK-Indonesia partnerships in research excellence. The knowledge shared and tools introduced will enable researchers to drive impactful change, ensuring that innovation translates into tangible economic and social benefits.
This workshop is part of a broader effort to build a sustainable research ecosystem, positioning Indonesia as a leader in impactful, globally recognized research translation.
