The Southeast Asia Researcher Career Development Workshop

Bangkok, Thailand – February 18-20, 2025. The Computer Science program at Binus University International proudly took part in The Southeast Asia Researcher Career Development Workshop, held in Bangkok, Thailand, from February 18-20, 2025. This prestigious workshop was organized in collaboration with Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI) and The Academy of Medical Sciences, aiming to support the professional growth of early- and mid-career researchers in Southeast Asia.
The transition from an early-career researcher to an established professional can be challenging, especially in Southeast Asia, where researchers often face barriers such as limited funding, restricted access to resources, and fewer career advancement opportunities. Recognizing these challenges, this workshop was specifically designed to provide researchers with the skills, knowledge, and networking opportunities necessary to succeed in the highly competitive research landscape.
Through interactive training sessions, participants engaged in hands-on learning experiences on topics such as:
- Grant Writing – Learning how to craft compelling research proposals to secure funding.
- Community Engagement – Exploring ways to collaborate with the public and research communities.
- Pitching for Funding – Developing strategies to present research ideas effectively to potential funders.
- Networking Opportunities – Connecting with peers, international academies, and funding organizations to foster future collaborations.
A dedicated session was also held where funders presented available funding opportunities, allowing participants to ask questions and explore potential financial support for their research.
The workshop’s primary objectives included:
- Establishing new professional connections, fostering collaboration among researchers, and creating linkages with international research institutions.
- Promoting the exchange of best practices and research strategies through peer support networks.
- Equipping participants with valuable skills and knowledge that will benefit their research and career progression.
By the end of the event, researchers, including those from Binus University International, left with not only enhanced technical and professional skills but also an expanded professional network, opening doors to new research opportunities and international collaborations.
The participation of Binus University International’s Computer Science program in this workshop marks a significant milestone in its commitment to fostering research excellence and global collaboration. As the university continues to support its researchers in navigating their careers, events like these play a crucial role in ensuring they are well-equipped to make meaningful contributions to the global scientific community.
With the insights and connections gained from this workshop, the future looks bright for Binus University International’s researchers, paving the way for ground breaking research and impactful innovations in the field of Computer Science.
