After a six-month journey, Google has announced the winners of the 2023 Google Solution Challenge, with Indonesia’s Wonder Reader team successfully emerging as one of the victors of this prestigious program.

The exciting news was revealed during the Demo Day event on Thursday, August 3, 2023, streamed on Google for Developers’ YouTube channel. Wonder Reader secured a place in the Top 3 alongside Bolivia’s Buzzbusters and Singapore’s HeadHome.

Comprising four students from Binus International, the Wonder Reader team had previously made a significant achievement by being the sole Indonesian representative to make it to the final 10 of the Google Solution Challenge 2023.

The talented team members are Philipus Adriel Tandra (19), Aric Hernando (21), Jason Jeremy Wijadi (21), and Jason Christian Hailianto (21), hailing from Jakarta. They developed a Braille reader device.

Jason Christian Hailianto (21), the team leader of Wonder Reader, expressed his enthusiasm upon hearing the announcement of their victory. “We are incredibly proud to be the first representatives from Indonesia to make it to the Top 3 of this program,” Christian shared.

On behalf of his team, he extended gratitude for the support from Mitra Netra, their friends in the GDSC community, Google Developers, as well as their friends and families. He hoped that this success would serve as a significant stepping stone for their team to transform Wonder Reader into a genuine Indonesian product and distribute it to the community.

For Jason Christian, this marks his second victory, having previously made it to the Top 10 in 2021 alongside Aric Hernando and Jason Jeremy Wijadi.

During their presentation at the Demo Day event, the Wonder Reader team conveyed their aspiration to create a meaningful impact and benefit for society, particularly for the visually impaired community. Their vision encompasses providing a Braille display that is accessible to everyone. Additionally, they are open to large-scale collaborations in redesigning the Wonder Reader concept according to specific needs.

Wonder Reader’s achievement not only exemplifies innovation but also demonstrates Indonesia’s potential in contributing groundbreaking solutions to global challenges. With their dedication, creativity, and vision, they have showcased the power of technology to make a tangible difference in the lives of individuals with visual impairments, setting a remarkable precedent for future innovations.
