In this fast-changing era, students of the Communications major learn not only how to write news or a press release but also how to be experts in analyzing Big Data for decision-making, proposing business insights, and crafting a compelling story that can make an impact.

For that reason, the program collaborated with Tirto (tirto.id) to host an intensive upskilling bootcamp which took place from 11 to 15 November 2024.

This year’s event is the third edition of the same bootcamp with a focus on training and mentoring third-year students of the Communications program in producing data storytelling.

The first and second edition of the bootcamp was named Data Journalism Bootcamp, which specified introducing students to the world of data-driven journalism and training them to create data journalistic work.

With the wide application of storytelling in today’s business, this year’s bootcamp offers students knowledge and guidance in using data for different purposes.

In the 5-day event, students learned different topics from tirto.id mentors, consisting of journalists and researchers.

On the first day, as the first session began, students were introduced to data storytelling by Ms. Rina Nurjanah, the Program Development Manager of Tirto, who talked about the general idea of data storytelling work. In the following session, Mr. Nuran Wibisono, the managing editor of tirto.id guided students on data storytelling project brainstorming.
