Guest Lecture: Writing press release with Chicca Ervika

The Communication Program held a guest lecturer session in Indonesian class on 6 May 2021. The topic is How to Write a Press Release, was delivered by Communication program batch 2019 alumni, Chicca Ervika. She is now working as a Public Relations consultant at Magnifique Indonesia, creative agency that focuses on visual and marketing communication.

Session started with an introduction of what a press release is and why a public relations consultant should learn how to write a good press release.

The process of creating a press release divided into 5 steps; starts from finding the angle, choosing the headline, creating the lead paragraph, narrating the story, and distribution. Public relations consultant should master each step to create a good press release.

When creating press releases there are guidelines that we should follow such as concise and brief, informative with relevant news, include a supporting quote,and engaging. And we should avoid pushing irrelevant news, exaggeratedly promoting the product, and making it too long.

She mentioned that the title should be “provocating in a good way” and by created lead paragraph with 5W1H can get the best media coverage.

At the end of session Chicca gave writing press release exercise for students to develop their writing skill and Indonesian vocabulary.
