Digital entertainment is a form of entertainment that is created, distributed, and consumed in a digital format with the use of electronic devices and digital technology. Examples of current digital entertainment consists of digital media, new media, video on demand, video games, interactive entertainment, online gambling, mobile entertainment, social media, streaming services, etc.
The future of digital entertainment would be really different from how we consume digital entertainment these days, examples are; streaming services, in the future streaming services is likely to continue, with more original content being produced by streaming platforms, and traditional cable and satellite TV services gradually losing ground. Other examples of future digital entertainment would be live streaming and social media integration, live streaming of gaming, events, and user-generated content continues to grow. Social media platforms are integrating more features to support live streaming, which has the potential to redefine how we experience live events and share moments with a global audience. Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) would also make a huge change in the digital entertainment industry, Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality are most likely to revolutionize the entertainment industry. Virtual Reality offers immersive gaming experiences, virtual concerts, and interactive storytelling, while Augmented Reality can enhance real-world experiences with digital overlays. As technology advances, these mediums will likely become more integrated into our daily entertainment. Digital Music and Podcasts would also affect the digital entertainment industry a lot, the music industry is increasingly digital, with streaming services dominating music consumption. Podcasts are also gaining popularity, offering a diverse range of content and attracting a growing audience. The future of gaming would also differ from the gaming consumers have these days, E-sports and competitive gaming, is becoming a mainstream form of entertainment, with professional players, professional leagues, and massive audiences. This trend is likely to continue, with increasing investments and viewership. Al or artificial intelligence would also change the future of digital entertainment due to, artificial intelligence is being used to personalize content recommendations and user experiences. In the future, AI could create content, avatars, and even interactive characters that adapt to the user’s preferences and behaviours, providing a more tailored entertainment experience. An addition to the digital entertainment industry would be, Blockchain and NFTs; blockchain technology and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are being explored in the digital entertainment world. They can be used to verify ownership of digital assets, enable new revenue streams for content creators, and create unique digital collectibles. As the digital entertainment industry grows, there will be increased focus on sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint, including data centres, gaming consoles, and the production of electronic devices.

It has completely changed the way we engage with and consume entertainment, providing users with ease, and accessibility.
