Demystifying Cells phone Technology

Jonathan

In this modern era, we can observe that almost everyone in the society possesses at least one or more cell phones. Despite everyone having this device, there are still a portion of the population of the population who still does not fully understand how to properly operate and utilise cell phone to the fullest. People who are 65 and above usually are the ones who does not have the knowledge on how does a cell phone works and this is one of the reasons on why elderly people avoid having cell phones. Today, we will be demystifying the technology and features of a cell phone.

A cell phone’s spare parts are called hardware. The hardware of a cell phone acts as an organ for the phone and each hardware has their specific tasks and all of the parts are required inside a cell phone for the phone to run and function properly. The examples of these hardwares are processors (CPU), memory (RAM), storage (ROM), battery, display, camera, and sensors. In short, processor is the brain of the phone and it is responsible in running all the applications. Random Access Memory, or also known as RAM is used for temporary storage of data that the device is currently using. Storage is used for permanently storing data into the device. Battery powers the device and if the battery runs out, the device will not be able to turn on. Display is a screen that shows the interface and allows the user to interact with the phone. Camera is used to capture image and record videos that can be stored within the device’s storage. A device can have multiple sensors such as gyroscope which is used for tracking the rotation of the phone, accelerometers, or ambient light. A cell phone must al least have one operating system like IOS, Android, or others. This is because the operating system is responsible for providing a platform to run applications. Modern cell phones now have the ability to do a wireless connection. The examples of a wireless connection are cellular connections like 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G to make calls, send texts, and to access the internet. Other examples are Bluetooth, Wi-Fi connection, and NFC (Non-Field Communication).

Usually, new phone comes with a pre-downloaded application like calculator, clock and timer, internet, settings, and many others that the developer provides before selling them to customers to make their experience with the cell phone a lot more convenient. Cell phones can also be used to replace other basic equipment and electronics like camera, music player, typewriter, arcade game machine, and even sometimes a computer. Cell phones also contains an application like Appstore or Google Play Store that are used to download other applications.

In conclusion, Cell phones are advance devices that everyone uses in their everyday lives. Operating  cell phone is easier for people in the modern era rather than the elderly people because people from the younger generation are more familiar and already accessing phones from such a young age, and elderly people are not familiar with the changes of technologies. Cell phones are not that complicated to understand and everyone with enough effort me are able to understand and able to properly operate a cell phone’ full function.
