Experiencing the Mysterious Side of the Market

The School of Business Management (International Business) held a business exhibition on Thursday, January 23 in the lobby of the Joseph Wibowo Center campus. Eleven booths featured a wide range of products on offer. Successfully winning the hearts of buyers were shoes, leather wallets, bags, food, silver jewelry, and mobile phone cases made of bamboo.

The mobile phone cases attracted buyers due to their originality. Dendy Maulana, along with his partners Ayaz, Cokorda, Kenny and Davin, chose the bamboo cases as their wares, selling them for between Rp 300 thousand and Rp 500 thousand per item.

At the one-day event Dendy shared his experience of doing business. He said that there was a element of mystery in pitching a product to the marketplace.

“At a glance, the business looked easy. However, once we got into the field, the reality told otherwise. We could not predict the market conditions. We drafted our business plan prior to the exhibition, yet the market is mysterious and it is very hard to predict,” said the former vice chairman of the student committee.

This has challenged Dendy to innovate the business’ plans. “Observing the entire exhibition urged me to make some innovations. There is the feasibility that I can take this bamboo mobile phone case business to a wider audience and go public,” Dendy said. (KF)
