DENIM FUN DAY with Lee Cooper
“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening”. The statement from Coco Chanel reflected the enthusiasm of the participants in the workshop titled ‘DENIM FUN DAY with Lee cooper Learn More About Denim’. In the event, which took place on Monday, May 27, 2013, Binus International collaborated with PT Lee Cooper Indonesia. Like we all know, women are identical with their graceful nature. This grace will show eloquently when they wear skirts and dresses. However, as everything evolves, we can notice that the graceful of women can show not only when they wear skirts and dresses, but also when they wear jeans. Jeans is a classic fashion item which has been around for almost two centuries. First created by Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss in 1873 for the miners in America, now jeans has evolved into one of the fashion items worn by everyone from kids to adults. The history of jeans as trousers dates back to America, yet the material used to make jeans, denim, has an even longer history. Denim dates back to the seventeenth century in Italy. The workshop, which was created as an interactive dialog with two hours of duration, was attended by a lot of participants and not only the students majoring in Fashion Design. Lecturers, staffs and students from other majors were also present. In the event, Jody Dharmawan as President Director PT Lee Cooper Indonesia was present as a speaker. PT Lee Cooper Indonesia described the history and development of denim and jeans and brand from Lee Cooper Indonesia. “I am really happy for being able to be here in BINUS International. I can share my knowledge and know my customers more, related to Lee Cooper Indonesia. On the question and answer section, there was one student who gave an idea on how Lee Cooper Indonesia can be more creative in innovating. To be honest, I am really happy with this creative idea,” explained Jody when we met him after the workshop. In addition to Jody Dharmawan, in the workshop the General Product & Marketing PT Lee Cooper Indonesia, Frieda Dharmawan, was also present. She talked about how to preserve and maintain the quality of jeans. This is a very interesting event, because the participants were able to get more than just the knowledge of jeans industry. They were also able to see the tools and engines used to print emblems, buttons and many others. The participants made their own personalized emblem and unique buttons. They also saw products of Lee Cooper Indonesia which were not available on the typical stores. “This is a very cool event. In addition to the explanation about the history of jeans, we also get additional information so we can innovate in the fashion world. To be honest, we’re here because apart from jeans being our hobby, we also got our own business called ESRE. In the future, I hope BINUS International will invite more young entrepreneurs with local brands. It’s not that we don’t agree with international brands, but as the younger generation in Indonesia, we also want to contribute to develop our country, especially on the jeans industry,” explained Andika and and Ilham, students majoring in Accounting which are on their third and fourth year. The cooperation between BINUS International and Lee Cooper Indonesia has been going on for a while now. Before this, BINUS International has been working together with school of fashion design BINUS International by organizing Fashion Jeans Denim Project where Lee Cooper provides jeans material for students of the School of Fashion Design BINUS INTERNATIONAL. The final work was displayed at F1 Main Lobby FX Jakarta. (Karunia Fransiska)
