What is Binus International Content Lab. by Communications?

Binus International Content Lab. (BICL) by Communications Program is a platform for community service (PKM) for lecturers in the Communications Program and the School of Computing and Creative Arts, Binus University International.

The BICL aims to provide training and assistance to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in utilizing technology and the ubiquity of social media as an effort to expand marketing reach to increase sales.

The BICL program consists of a series of direct training and mentoring targeted—but not limited—to SMEs around the Bina Nusantara University (Binus University) work environment.

The training provided is focused on improving applied communication skills such as Public Speaking, Copywriting, Storytelling, Content Making, and so on.

The first series from BICL is entitled TikTok 360 which offers training and assistance in creating content for product and service promotion on TikTok social media.

The background

In today’s digital era, consumer behavior has changed in which shopping habits have shifted from shopping directly at shopping centers or markets to online shopping preferences.

The emergence of many marketplaces such as Tokopedia, Shopee, Lazada, and most recently TikTok Shop, has encouraged business actors to adapt to online sales systems.

This also causes many markets and shopping centers to experience a significant decline in sales.

The problem that emerges is tight business competition and unstoppable dynamic changes in digital behavior make SMEs less empowered in all directions, especially in terms of digital business and communication skills.

For this reason, BICL is here to train and empower SMEs so they can compete strongly in the Society 5.0 environment.

The purposes of BICL

Binus International Content Lab. by Communications Program was built to achieve several goals such as:

  1. To realize the vision of Bina Nusantara University, namely “A world-class university that fosters and empowers the community in building and serving the nation” through community service.
  2. To carry out community service functions in the form of providing training and assistance to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs)
  3. To become a platform for Communications Program lecturers and students to practice applied communication skills.
  4. To become an extension of the use of research results related to journalism, public relations, and entertainment communications.
  5. To expand social and professional networks through training and community development including the public and professionals.
