Guest Lecture: Public Speaking for MC

Ervika Putri (Chicca) one of alumni from Communication batch 2019 came for a visit in Public Speaking class. It’s always interesting to have the alumni to share their experience, and usually the students are more curious because the alumni used to be one of them.

After graduated in 2019, Chicca worked as a PR Consultant in Magnifique, one of PR agencies in Jakarta. She handled clients such as Disney and gain a lot of experience in the PR field. From writing press releases, organized events, handled media relations, and became MC for events. After a couple of years in the PR field, she is now a Brand Marketing Manager for Hypefast.

Chicca shared her experiences as MC and how good public speaking skills have help them to perform well on the task. “Public speaking is the basic skills that you have to master because it is the basic of all speaking performance, “she shared.

Moreover, she recalled her experience as MC for campus activity and advice the students to take as many opportunities as possible that the school offer. “It all started in campus, from one event to another, the more you practice the better you will be.”

In the class, Chicca asked the students to create a short speech for 2-3 minutes, then evaluate the students one by one. It was a good exercise for the students, they can get different perspective about their speech delivery and content from someone other than the lecturer.
