On the 3rd of June 2021, The Communication program held received,  Darenth Tanaya, a 2017 Binus Alumni, who is currently working in GoJek as a guest lecturer for the Indonesia Language class. The topic of the lecture that Darenth talked about was “How important is Indonesian in the workplace”.

As how most lecture starts, Mr. Darenth started the lecture with a brief introduction to who he is and his relationship with Binus. He also shared his work experience aside from his current which is Gojek.

Afterwards Darenth started his presentation and lecture regarding todays topic. The easy going atmosphere and easy to digest information by Darenth provided a nice and relaxing lecture that the students were able to enjoy and learn from. It was an impactful lecture that brought a lot of questions to be asked during the end of the session.

Going into the lecture he started it off with some fun facts regarding workplace language. Darenth stated that 40% of Indonesian employees uses English as their main language in workspace. Amongst private sectors, English is used as the 2nd main language, while startups combine both Indonesian and English on all their digital assets deliverable.

Going forward with the lecture, Darenth talks about 4 important things to consider which was, capability, flexibility, versatile, and independency. But, what do they mean? Capability talks about the need to possess credible Bahasa skills, to function greatly in a workplace.

Flexibility talks about to be flexible on your mindset, don’t limit your English but accommodate them into your creative thinking process. Versatile means to have the luxury of communicating both ways, which allows yourself to be versatile within the workplace. Independency means that at the end of the day, you are responsible of yourself. Create evaluate then elevate.

Adaptation and elevation, the next subject that he talks about. This topic explains 2 process which was A.I.D.A (attention, interest, demands, action) and K.I.S.S (keep it short and simple). As the name and acronym suggested it is a very to the face process, which was easily explained to the students.

He stated that the optimum amount of words per sentence is between 5 to 9, if it is in Instagram people/viewers are more likely to stop reading the post after the second slide. That is why it is important to keep it short and simple, while also holding the attention and interests of the viewer, he also shared his knowledge regarding internal and external communication and what to consider on them.

The session ended with a little exercise to create a webinar idea and event brief. It was very interesting to see some fun ideas and being evaluated directly from GoJek Marketing Merchant.
