Journalism in Pandemics: Adapting and Evolving

Faculty of Communication Studies, University Technology MARA, Selangor, Malaysia hosted a journalism colloquium on 17 December 2020.

The sub-topics are: Sharing is Caring but Not for Fake News by Ainol Amriz Ismail , a former journalist, and media specialist; Journalism During a Pandemic: Expectation by Ashwad Ismail, Managing Editor Astro Awani; and Is The Grass Greener on The Other Side? by Andari Karina Anom, Head of Communication Program, Binus University International.

The colloquium focused on how journalism can evolve in the face of current challenges. Although journalistic practices have been changing even before the pandemic, the arrival of the Covid-19 has propelled the shift even more prominently.

The current situation has amassed new struggles and challenges for journalists to collect the necessary data in order to publish news, especially with new procedures being placed by authorities to counter the spread of the virus.

The new generation of media practitioners have had to master various new skills in order to keep up with how the world is changing. The discussion was published in Malaysian media: Perkongsian Berita Palsu Ancam Kewartawanan Profesional which is made available through the link below.
