COMM SPACE 2020 – Communications B2023’s first online event

The batch 2023 students of Communications program, Binus University International had successfully organized their first online event.

 

The event named COMM SPACE 2020 serves as a student collaboration platform where they can share their knowledge and concerns and channel their creativity related to creative industry especially in the field of communication.

 

The main objective of the event is to train student to work in a real-life situation to practice their critical thinking, public speaking, teamwork, and networking skills.

 

The event runs through two programs namely 5-minute Social Campaign Speech Competition which ran on November 23 and Student Forum: Youth for Peace Journalism that was held on November 25.

 

The first program was a national-level competition on social campaign through a 5-minute persuasive communication. Competitors were invited from public and private universities as well as schools across the country.

 

Among the judges for the event were Ms. Lily El Ferawati from Binus University International, Mr. Ahmad Aziz from Campaign.com, and Ms. Henrietta Kristanto representing Toastmaster International.

 

20 participants competed in the semi-final round that were done via zoom in three different breakout rooms. Two best speakers were selected from each breakout room to deliver their speech again in the final round in front of three judges and audience.

 

Muna Gayatri Ummi from Universitas Bina Nusantara came out as the winner of the competition and took home 1,5 million rupiah prize. The second place was secured by Jenny Sari Winata from Universitas Pelita Harapan and Deborah Mogot from University of Amsterdam won the third place. The second and third place winner brought home a cash prize worth 1 million rupiah and 500,000 rupiah respectively.

 

 

The second program named Student forum: Youth for Peace Journalism was a sharing forum on youth voice about journalistic practice in the age of disruption and how they can propose ideas for the future of journalism in Indonesia.

 

The speakers were student representatives of journalism program/streaming from selected universities including Dio Suhendra (COMM BI), Nadia Intan F. (UGM), Adinda Puspa Priyanti (Universitas Padjajaran).

 

Most importantly, Ms. Purwani Diyah Prabandari, a senior journalist from Tempo Group delivered her keynote speech about the same topic.

 

More than 100 students from Binus and beyond joined the two programs this year and the program is ready to conduct the second edition of the event next year.
