Saturday, 24th of February 2024 – Fashion Program BINUS International together with Master in Industrial Engineering BINUS Graduate Program presents an International Seminar with speaker Irmandy Wicaksono, B.Eng., M.Sc. (from MIT Media Lab) entitled “Textile Macroelectronics: Architecting Sensate Fabrics across Scales“.

780+ participants stayed through till the end. Irmandy discussed recent progress in e-textile materials, developments, and applications and present several of his PhD research at the MIT Media Lab that leverage digital knitting, soft tactility, as well as multimodal and distributed sensing capability. With these collective and complementary efforts, he hopes to show an ecosystem of sensate fabric artifacts that will lead us toward Electronic Textile Gaia, a vision in which technologies are seamlessly interconnected and integrated into the fabric of everyday life, from in-body, on-body, room-scale, to architectural textiles and for applications ranging from physiological and physical activity sensing to interactive media and environments. Irmandy discussed the concept of embedding computing into various materials such as textiles, ceramics, and concrete. He highlighted potential advantages like improved communication and healthcare, and the creation of modular and configurable electronics. He also expressed interest in leveraging big data and developing AI to improve daily life. She mentioned ongoing research and development projects, including a bubble machine and the exploration of microelectronics.
