Inside Tom Ford’s New Book
American Fashion Designer Tom Ford launched his new book in November last year: Tom Ford 002
It looks into his past 15 years, from dressing stars like Beyoncé, as a husband and a father, filmmaking, to being vegan and no drink. In Tom Ford 001, he took the readers to the years he worked at YSL and Gucci and now with the latest book he talks more about his passionate design concepts and his family like. Tom Ford 002 is dedicated to his late husband who is a fashion journalist Richard Buckley and their son Jack. The book also looks back on Tom Ford’s life as a creative visionary who managed a powerful comeback with his fashion and beauty through his eponymous brand.
“You Can’t Design Things You Don’t Believe In, and So I Don’t”.
Seventeen years after his best-selling debut book, this long awaited second book is a visual celebration of Tom Ford’s brand which he founded back in 2005. Imagery and personal commentary are featured in this 444-page book mapping his career post leaving Gucci group. The book is beautifully slipcased in white colour with a masculine black font for the title, emphasising the designer’s sleek glamour signature. Tom Ford 002 features an introduction by Canadian journalist Graydon Carter, a forward by British Journalist Anna Wintour and an intimate conversation with Bridget Foley.
In this second book, Tom Ford talks about his career and life as a director. He’s not just someone who comes from the fashion industry, in fact he has always wanted to make movies as a way to tell stories that cannot be told in fashion.
“The very first time you saw it on the runway… That rush will never be recreated, whereas in film it can be. You know if there’s an old film you haven’t seen, it’s a new film… I feel it’s a much more permanent expression of whatever it is you are trying to say.
“That was my surprise—that they were surprised. Fashion is great, I love fashion. But my greatest achievement will have been making A Single Man.”
