Doc: Team pitching during the program

Jakarta, 9 March 2024 – BINUS University International, Ngee Ann Polytechnic Singapore, and Reactor School proudly organized the Global Startup Hackathon, a three-day cross-border program designed to provide aspiring young entrepreneurs with the opportunity to kick-start their startup ideas while working collaboratively with like-minded individuals from around the globe. Held on March 9th, 10th, and 16th, 2024, the hackathon brought together students from various Institutes of Higher Learning across Indonesia, Singapore, China, Thailand, and Vietnam.

A Diverse and Engaging Event

In Indonesia, the event saw participation from four BINUS University students, two Atmajaya University students, and six Singaporean students. These participants, guided by facilitators and mentors, developed innovative business solutions for real-world challenges. Over the course of the hackathon, they explored problem statements, ideated plausible solutions, and crafted pitches to present to a panel of venture capitalists and industry experts.

The panel of judges included:

  • Anna Yeow: Head of Startup at The Sandbox Ngee Ann Polytechnic
  • Erwin Lizarondo: Growth Program Lead and Partner at Impact5x Asian Pacific Small Business
  • Pierre Blaquett: Director of Strategic Partnership & Business Development at Current Sustainable Solutions

Focus Areas Aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

The hackathon’s problem statements encouraged participants to generate business solutions within the spheres of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:

SDG 4 Quality Education : How might we create inclusive and culturally relevant curriculum frameworks in South East Asia to cater to diverse learning styles and ensure that quality education is accessible to all students, regardless of their background?

SDG 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth : How might we strengthen vocational training and skill development platforms in South East Asia to align with the evolving demands of the job market, ensuring that individuals are equipped with the necessary skills for decent work and contributing to the region’s economic growth?

SDG 13 Climate Action : How might we harness technology to empower communities to actively participate in climate action, whether through reducing carbon footprints, enhancing climate education, or fostering climate resilience?
