Indonesia is not only projected to be the center of ASEAN economic strength, but is also predicted to be one of economic leaders of the world. The prediction is about to become reality since the economic growth of Indonesia is constantly increasing along with its supporting demographics. Having made good progress on its economy, Indonesia has now got the largest investment potential in ASEAN.  Japan, which famously makes major investments in the country, stated their interest to relocate its factories and to invest their stocks in Indonesia. It is also known that one of the biggest automotive manufactures from Japan has already made Indonesia its market research and brand development area. Investing in Indonesia should be supported by strong human resources, specifically engineers. They are expected to meet exacting  Japanese standards. To answer these needs, ASO College, a leading education provider in Japan is coming to Indonesia to support the investment. As one of the best education institutions in Indonesia, BINUS, is collaborating with ASO College to present BINUS-ASO School of Engineering (BASE). The BASE soft launching event, was held at the Exhibition Hall, on the Anggrek Campus, on May 8. Hendry Susanto, the Marketing Manager of BINUS-ASO School of Engineering, stated that BASE focuses especially on engineering skills by integrating the qualifications and strengths of both ASO School and BINUS University. “ASO is bringing it Automotive & Robotics Engineering and Product Design Engineering courses. ASO College is highly proficient in this regard and their alumni are distributed in Japan’s manufacturers around the world. Certainly, the products that are manufactured and made by their alumni can be enjoyed, such as vehicles, households, electronic products,” said Hendy. The industrial learning system utilizes 50% practical learning. For lectures, English is used as the language of instruction, along with basic Japanese. Another advantage of this program is the intensive summer course to ASO College in Fukuoka, Japan. Hendy hopes that the existence of BASE can help the development of industrial knowledge not only for Japan, but also for Indonesia to become a developed country. “BINUS-ASO School of Engineering (BASE) is capable of producing  world-class engineers so that they can contribute to the development of industry in both Japan and Indonesia, and the rest of the world as well,” he said. The cooperation between BINUS INTERNATIONAL and Northumbria University received the backing of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, during his comparative study to the Great Britain with the rector of BINUS UNIVERSITY, Prof. Dr. Ir. Harjanto Prabowo MM, back in 2012. The Minister of State for Universities and Science of the United Kingdom, The Rt Hon Mr David Willetts MP has also given the partnership his blessing. The minister visited BINUS INTERNATIONAL, accompanied by Prof. Andrew Wathey, the Vice-Chancellor of Northumbria University, to sign a MoU for the cooperation between the two institutions. The event was held at the Joseph Wibowo Center campus on March 4. This event has added to the list of important steps taken by BINUS INTERNATIONAL in the institution’s effort to expand. The Rector of BINUS UNIVERSITY, Prof. Dr. Ir. Harjanto Prabowo MM explained that this cooperation between BINUS INTERNATIONAL and Northumbria University was sure to improve the quality of the School of Design programs. Prof. Harjanto was also optimistic that with this kind of innovative venture, the university could carry on contributing to the creative industry, helping develop the potential of young Indonesians. "The cooperation also has been supported by strong bilateral ties between the governments of the two countries. In 2012, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, along with several rectors and presidents of various universities in Indonesia conducted a comparative study to several universities in England. The visit aimed at improving cooperation in the educational sector. Since then, BINUS INTERNATIONAL has committed to providing world-class education,” said Prof. Harjanto. In 2012, students of School of Design and students of Northumbria University conducted a joint research on Lombok traditional woven fabrics. They then showcased the result of their study during Jakarta Fashion Week 2013. BINUS Northumbria School of Design (BNSD) is ready to help students of School of Design to improve their skills and develop their potential. At the end of each semester, an audit team from Northumbria University is to come to Jakarta to assess the students’ work, conduct workshops and provide input to the lecturers on how to develop their programs. Education has always been a crucial factor in the betterment of a nation. Education acts as the center for the development of human resources and has contributed greatly to the benefits of humans. Technology is the fruit of human thought and has significantly helped industry and service sectors to achieve cost efficiency and shorten the chain of production. In line with this trend, within the last few years, several universities have established cooperation with various industries. Within such cooperation, the university has the function of being the major supplier of knowledge, but it is often left behind. This makes it hard to ward off the stigma of universities being ivory towers. Controversy and confusion often lead to the issue of improving the role of universities in supporting industry and service sectors. The minimum contribution from universities to the knowledge economy makes it necessary to improve the relationship between universities and industries, not only with the focus on knowledge but also on the benefits the public will get. This has motivated SAGE – BINUS INTERNATIONAL to be more critical in their innovations in order to be able to establish stronger relationship with industries. This is evident with BINUS INTERNATIONAL having been chosen as the only university entrusted to organize Live Webcast Forum Creating Shared Value (CSV) 2014 with the theme "Scaling up Sustainability through Creating Shared Value". This bi-annual event was held on February 18, 2014 at the Ballroom of the Four Seasons Hotel, Jakarta. Participants attending via webcast in Room 310 of BINUS INTERNATIONAL were able to deliver questions. The questions were then transmitted live to the speakers, comprising academics, representatives from NGOs, the government and experts in health and agriculture. “Of course, such cooperation as the one with Nestlé today is a good example of how BINUS INTERNATIONAL can establish cooperation with other industries. SAGE will continue to develop various types of beneficial cooperation, beyond mere recruitment,” the Manager of SAGE, Netta Syafei, explained. (KF)

Retailers nowadays must develop ‘retailing mix’ to attract and maintain their consumers. In addition, the reason of reconsidering ‘retailing mix’ is to face the increasing competition from other shopping centers, which have been mushrooming in Jakarta. One way to apply retailing mix is by increasing the sales strategy capable of influencing the interests of buyers. Such issue is addressed by fX Mall through its routine seminar conducted twice a year in June and November. fX Mall works hand-in-hand to deliver the insights into tenants in a seminar. The objective is to enable the tenants to know their performance in designing strategies to influence the interest of their buyers. By taking one of their tenants, which is focused on the education realm, fX Mall collaborates with BINUS INTERNATIONAL holding an event themed “Tenant Seminar: Upselling Strategy” on Wednesday, November 27, 2013. The event was participated by 50 different tenants, each representing their companies. The positions they hold in their companies also varied, from front liner to manager. Mira AyuAdinda, tenant commercial relations coordinator, expressed her optimism that the event could help all the participating tenants to mirror each other. A knowledge sharing at the event was conducted; so all the participants could reveal obstacles they have been facing during work. Featuring as the speakers at the event were two faculty members from BINUS INTERNATIONAL and BINUS BUSINESS SCHOOL. Yuliana from School of Hospitality Tourism Managementin a straightforward manner delivered her presentation on how to treat customers. At the peak of the event, Robert AB from School of Marketing BINUS BUSINESS SCHOOL delivered his tips on designing strategies to increase sales. The collaboration is expected to be a milestone for BINUS in spreading its wings. “We know that BINUS has quite strong brand and gotten into the public eye. That’s the reason why we are so open when the two faculty members came up as the speakers at the seminar. I’m very happy, as they are frank. I hope that there will be a sustainable partnership in the future,” Mira concluded. (KF) [gallery columns="1" link="file" ids="2209,2213,2212,2210,2211"]

With more than 32 years of Indonesian education under its belt, BINUS has won the trust as an education institution of public choice. Various breakthroughs are continuously made by BINUS to realize its vision to be ““A World-class Knowledge Institution in continuous pursuit of innovation and enterprise”. One of the breakthroughs made is the program where BINUS INTERNATIONAL collaborateswith various overseas universities. Currently, BINUS INTERNATIONAL has built partnership with 19 leading universities in Australia, Europe and Asia for the implementation of double degree, student exchange and master track programs. Among all the forms of partnership with overseas universities, there is one unique partnership, which is the implementation of double degree that can be achieved in four years without having to go overseas. This program is a partnership between BINUS INTERNATIONAL and Northumbria University, one of the leading universities in the United Kingdom. Northumbria University has earned its world reputation known for its quality alumni who have produced spectacular works; among others are Jonathan Ive, senior vice president of Design, Apple Inc.; Warren Trezevant, animator & creative lead for Dimensional Animation, Pixar Animation Study); Adi Panuntun, founder of Design & Film Company, Sembilan Matahari; and many more. Students taking program at School of Design, such as Art & Design, Fashion Design and Fashion Management can complete their education in Indonesia without having to go overseas. Yet, they will still earn two degrees in a relatively short period. Northumbria University actively helps the development of School of Design at BINUS INTERNATIONAL, from the management of learning quality andthe application of curriculum, to the provision of audit team. At the end of each semester, the audit team from Northumbria University, which is headquartered in the United Kingdom, will visit BINUS INTERNATIONAL to conduct workshop and assessment for students and lectures. “We are convinced that the international reputation Northumbria University has earned can give the positive impact for the development of School of Design at BINUS INTERNATIONAL,” said Stephen W. Jakarta Fashion Week is the biggest and most-anticipated fashion event in Indonesia. The allure of this prestigious event draws the attention of fashionistas from not only the archipelago, but also from around the globe. Thus, this event should be the benchmark for fashion development in Indonesia. After achieving success at Jakarta Fashion Week 2013 with ‘Hyperculture’, which was inspired by woven fabric motif designs from Lombok, BINUS INTERNATIONAL Fashion Design and Fashion Management Program returned to Jakarta Fashion Week 2014, held on Sunday, October 20, 2013. This year’s theme was ‘Urban Myths: The Mystical Borneo’, which was inspired by fabric motif designs from Kalimantan. BINUS INTERNATIONAL students conducted  research in East Kalimantan as a means of preparing for the show. During the research, the students managed to meet members of the Dayak Benuaq and Dayak Bahau tribes to get a stronger insight into the local culture, as well as engaging in discussions with local weavers about the elements of traditional myths that could be adapted into for clothing patterns. “The seven-day stay in East Kalimantan was carefully prepared; as the students gained a lot of knowledge from local weavers about the making of apparel, and how to apply the natural beauty of the flora and fauna as the inspiration in designing ready-to-wear clothing for this Jakarta Fashion Week 2014,” Ratna Dewi Paramita, program coordinator of Fashion Management at BINUS INTERNATIONAL. The participation of BINUS INTERNATIONAL Fashion Design and Fashion Management at Jakarta Fashion Week over the last two years is seeking to enhance the students’ talents and benefit from using local tropes in the Indonesian fashion industry. On this occasion, BINUS INTERNATIONAL featured 48 contemporary fashion designs for ready-to-wear clothing. “All of them are the masterpieces of 13 students from Fashion Design and Fashion Management at BINUS INTERNATIONAL. The students, who are in their fifth semester, are Gendis Mayangsari, Rianti Dwiastuti, Ines Valentia, Aisya Putri, Claresta Pitojo, Natasha Amanda, Kezia Silanu, Hana Farhana, Zanetha Labianka, Zihan, Widya Rahmaningrum, Risya Novia Permata Sari and Priscilla Nauli,” explained Amanda Prihutomo, program coordinator of Fashion Design at BINUS INTERNATIONAL, explained. The fashion major at BINUS INTERNATIONAL was established in 2010 and is the first undergraduate study in fashion education in Indonesia, featuring two programs, namely: Fashion Design and Fashion Management. Both programs enable students to earn dual degrees in four years without having to go abroad. The dual-degree program for the fashion major at BINUS INTERNATIONAL collaborates with Northumbria University (United Kingdom). This reputable university has the oldest fashion program in the United Kingdom. Technology has a more significant role in modern life, given the ubiquity of mobile phones and computers. These gadgets support communication, transportation, making transactions, playing games, read news, and many other functions. The internet and other supporting features have made gadgets become more interesting. The supporting features were made possible because of software developments. At present, new software companies have been improving the ways in which technology has made life more efficient. In developed countries, someone with software-making skills will be considered smart and have a good career. So it is not surprising that IT departments, especially in the software engineering major at universities, have gained much interest from local and international students. A studying method that consists of theories and practices in the software engineering field, and references and knowledge sharing from experienced people in the field are expected to improve the students’ ability in understanding and mastering the ways to create software. Such steps are being taken by BINUS INTERNATIONAL for the Computer Science major’s students. Three former engineers from Silicon Valley, in the United States of America, Aditya Herlambang, B.Sc., M.Sc. (CTO Shopious Indonesia), Adrianus Benny Tjia, B.Sc. (CEO Bornevia) and Hendry Rusli, B.Sc. (CEO Code-O Solutions), came to BINUS INTERNATIONAL for the 2013 Build Conf Indonesia event titled “The First Indonesian Workshop by Silicon Valley Graduates.” The experience sharing and workshop were held from October 7th – 9th 2013 at BINUS Senayan Joseph Wibowo Center and were attended by students and professionals from the programming world. During this occasion, the speakers shared knowledge on the best web technology development that can be used to create websites and mobile applications. Furthermore, the participants were also taught how to directly program simple applications which can be useful after the workshop. Programmers could later expect to be involved in operating systems such as: IOS, Github Social Coding, Amazon webservices, Bootstrap, NGINX, BackBone.JS, mongoDB and Codelgniter. “I’m very satisfied with the event. The participants were very enthusiastic and eager to find more information about the materials delivered during the event. Even during the break, there were many of them who came over to the speakers to ask questions. There wasn’t any hesitation to ask. I also would like to thank BINUS INTERNATIONAL which has been very cooperative, and I received perfect room facilities,” said Adrianus in an interview with INNOVATION. Teuku Aulia Geumpama, the Program Coordinator – Networking BINUS INTERNATIONAL, explained how proud he was that the Silicon Valley engineers and international IT practitioners, despite not graduating from BINUS INTERNATIONAL, had decided to hold their first event at BINUS INTERNATIONAL. Aulia believes that this shows that BINUS INTERNATIONAL  is gaining international recognition and exposure. Furthermore, the three speakers also collaborated with the lecturers of information technology at BINUS INTERNATIONAL as co-coaches during the event. “Hopefully this workshop can become a platform for BINUS INTERNATIONAL’s students and professionals to gain more knowledge of software,” explained Raymond Kosala (Head of Program – Computer Science, BINUS INTERNATIONAL). (Karunia Fransiska) [gallery columns="1" ids="2173,2174,2171,2172,2170"]

Hsinchu, July 16, 2013. One of Indonesia’s leading private universities, BINUS University of Jakarto has appointed Dr. Da Hsuan Feng, Senior Vice President for Global Strategies, Planning and Evaluation of National Tsing Hua University in Hsinchu, Taiwan, to be a member of its prestigious Advisory Board. In his letter inviting Dr. Feng to be a member of this board, Rector (President) Harjanto Prabowo said that “BINUS Advisory Council (BAC) is a council comprising of very prominent leaders from various backgrounds (academic and industry) selected for his/her passion dedication to education, whose main role is to give strategic advice to leaders of Binus Nusantara Foundation and BINUS University.” The journey of Bina Nusantara (BINUS) University began on October 21, 1974 and in 1996 it formally became BINUS University. Today, BINUS has Faculty of Economics and Communications, Faculty of Humanities, and Faculty of Engineering, School of Computer Science, School of Information System, School of Business and Management, School of Art and Design. BINUS has over 24,000 students and over 1050 faculty members, and her first campus outside Jakarta will begin operations in October 2013. The accolade of Best Private University was accorded to BINUS in early 2013 by Kopertis III under Ministry of Education and Culture, Indonesia. BINUS also won the annual Indonesian Most Admired Knowledge Enterprise (MAKE) Study Award from 2010 to 2012. According to Dr. Feng, “as soon as I came on board to NTHU nearly three years ago, President Lih J. Chen had requested that I explore a comprehensive strategy to liaise with one of the BRIIC nations in Southeast Asia, Indonesia. Upon reflection, I concluded that due to its sheer magnitude in landmass and population, Indonesia could become, if not already, the engine for 21st century Southeast Asia, and its universities would be the engine of the country.” “In the past two years, by interacting with a number of BINUS’ academicians and administrators, I have learnt that it is indeed a forward looking and proactive institution that is located in one of the most exciting and fast growing metropolis of Asia, Jakarta. In my recent visit to BINUS and Jakarta, I saw firsthand that everyone I encountered seemed to be forward looking, wanting BINUS to be one of the engines of Indonesia,” said Dr. Feng. “It is for these reasons that I am humbled and excited to represent National Tsing Hua University, and to work hand-in-hand with outstanding colleagues in BINUS University to create win-win scenarios for BINUS and NTHU in particular, Taiwan and Indonesia in general!” concluded Feng. About National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) National Tsing Hua University is a research university with a long and proud tradition. Since the re-establishment in Hsinchu in 1956, the university has been known for her excellent academic programs as well as her spacious verdant campus. NTHU initially began in Taiwan with nuclear sciences studies, and gradually expanded to include general sciences and engineering; in the past twenty years, the social sciences and humanities, life sciences, information sciences, and management sciences were added. Over the last fifty-five years, NTHU has transformed herself into a comprehensive university and is recognized globally in many disciplines. There are thirteen Academia Sinica Academicians on the faculty, and sixteen professors awarded with various National Chair Professorships. Among the fifty thousand alumni, there is one Nobel Laureate Yuan Tseh Lee and twelve Academicians. The university development, with active participation from all staff members, has been built on a transparent and progressive platform, and the campus life is visibly permeated with vitality and enthusiasm, with the eight colleges complementing each other in scholastic endeavors. The per-student funding from the Ministry of Education's "Toward World-Class Universities Project" surpasses all other universities in Taiwan. February 16 , 2012 Dozens of Taiwanese with black suits gather at BINUS BUSINESS SCHOOL, The Joseph Wibowo Center Campus, Senayan, Central Jakarta. They enthusiastically tour in the building which was named after the founder of BINA NUSANTARA foundation. Their activity is part of the immersion trip of Yuan Ze University to BINUS BUSINESS SCHOOL. After the campus tour, students of MM Executive also acquaint themselves with students of BINUS BUSINESS SCHOOL. Lecturers from BINUS BUSINESS SCHOOL teach them about Design Thinking. Yes, these students enthusiastically listen to materials given by Program Director MM Executive, Tubagus Hanafi Soeriaatmadja, MBA, MSi and Student & Alumnae Relation Manager, Muhammad Ariono Margiono, S.IP, MSC (ECON), MM. They are then asked to share their ideas. According to Overseas Program Coordinator BINUS INTERNATIONAL & BINUS BUSINESS SCHOOL, Rokoyah Andariani Amin, students of Yuan Zee are satisfied with BINUS’ reception. “They are also excited to see students from MM Executive,” says the woman known as Yaya to the editorial team on Thursday (16/2). The immersion trip is a part of the collaboration program between BINUS INTERNATIONAL, BINUS BUSINESS SCHOOL and other universities. With the cooperation, BINUS prioritizes  foreign universities with good reputations. As well as immersion trips, there are joint researches, guest lecturers and of course student exchange programs. THE BENEFIT OF INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIP “With our partners, we have the twinning program. This means, students can obtain degrees from both BINUS and our partners. We will give students the chance to study in Indonesia for two years and they can spend the next year studying abroad. They can also learn here for three years and still acquire two degrees,” Yaya explains when we interview her at JWC Campus. Yaya says there are a lot of benefits gained by BINUS INTERNATIONAL and BINUS BUSINESS SCHOOL from this collaboration. The twinning program is one of them. However, there are larger advantages gained in this partnership, from academic and non-academic points of view. “For instance, students will get extra degrees from the twinning program. Moreover, our students will be able to get international experiences and they will learn to be more independent when they study abroad. We can also learn a lot of things from our partners,” Yaya says. BINUS students can perform internships at other universities abroad and therefore, they have a better chance of being recruited by companies outside of Indonesia. They can also easily find jobs in Indonesian companies. “At the moment, most Indonesian companies still prioritize graduates from foreign universities. They have their own reasons. They are looking for human resources who speak English fluently, and are independent and adaptive. We are preparing our students for these qualifications, because when they are abroad, they see different people from different countries,” Yaya explains. This partnership is based on the concept of symbiotic mutualism.  Both partners  benefit. “This cooperation also introduces diversity within the students’ community in their university. This creates a very good situation for their students,” Yaya says. PARTNERS OF BINUS INTERNATIONAL AND BINUS BUSINESS SCHOOL Dean of Programs Minaldi Loeis, M.Sc, MM, says that BINUS INTERNATIONAL doesn’t choose its partners based on the universities. “We choose the right partners based on their programs. So, we will cooperate with universities which provide qualified programs for our students,” says the man often called Pak Mil. At BINUS INTERNATIONAL Day 2012, Minaldi explains in detail about BINUS INTERNATIONAL partners. There are more or less 20 academic partners, such as Curtin Business School, Macquarie University, Cologne Business School (CBS), University of Wollongong, Northumbria University and La Trobe University. “Take Northumbria University, for instance. Northumbria is in the top 10 of best design schools in the world. Their alumni are recommended. Located in Newcastle, England, Northumbria has a very strong tradition in the area of design. We are very proud to be able to work with them," Pak Mil explains. BINUS INTERNATIONAL and BINUS BUSINESS SCHOOL always try to choose their partners wisely. “As institutions, we want to be able to learn from each other - especially if we see them as good institutions. Usually they come to BINUS and afterwards we talk with them. If we see eye to eye, we will work as partners and sign an agreement,” Yaya says. Yaya explains that most of BINUS’ partners originated from Australia. There is a reason for this. Students’ parents often consider their children’s psychological factor. Geographically, Australia is not far from Indonesia. That means it is easy for the parents to visit their children. “One thing is for sure - we want to find universities with good reputations and good quality - because in the future we will place our students there. Of course, we want to do our best for them (BINUS students).” WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT BINUS There are a lot of opinions from Partners of BINUS INTERNATIONAL and BINUS BUSINESS SCHOOL. All of them provide positive reviews. One of them is the opinion given by La Trobe University. “Students of BINUS INTERNATIONAL have very good attitudes. We even have a high-achieving student who managed to attain a full scholarship from La Trobe,” says Ina Liem, In-Country Manager La Trobe University for Indonesia when we interviewed her at BINUS INTERNATIONAL Day 2012. A similar opinion is given by a representative from Curtin Business School. "They are not only providing a good education system, but also an impressive, efficient and comprehensive administration,” says Prof. Werner Soontiens, Dean International Curtin Business School. Based on the data from Curtin Business School, Prof. Werner Soontiens says BINUS students are well prepared to gain success in their study at Curtin. The alumni, says Werner, have proven their success in the professional business world. “We are fully confident of choosing BINUS INTERNATIONAL as our partner to provide a qualified teaching system and administrative process at a higher education level. We are looking at a very good future together,” Werner says. THE HOPE FOR INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIP BINUS INTERNATIONAL and BINUS BUSINESS SCHOOL welcomes the internationalization year in 2012. Referring to this purpose, BINUS wants its students to obtain international experience. That’s why BINUS cooperates with other universities abroad. “Because our focus is internationalization, we want to enhance international experiences for students of BINUS INTERNATIONAL and BINUS BUSINESS SCHOOL. At the moment, there are 18 foreign exchange students who are studying in our university. We want our students to participate in a similar program,” Yaya says. Yaya hopes that their partnership with reputable universities will continue smoothly. “Hopefully our cooperation can provide extra advantages for universities and students. We want to create more than just student mobility and staff mobility, and we want to organize joint seminars and other similar programs,” Yaya says. (RA)

February 11 , 2012 Art connoisseurs can get a lot of inspiration from a country’s culture and traditions - especially when the country we’re talking about happens to be Japan. The Land of the Rising Sun is known for  its unique culture and way of life. We could see that and so much more at the event Bijac no Tanjoiwai 5: Bijac no Matsuri. It was a part of a series of events organized to commemorate the fifth anniversary of BINUS International Japanese Culture Club (BIJCC). The event took place during the weekend, February 10-12, 2012. The festival, or matsuri in Japanese, was held in the Main Lobby of Joseph Wibowo Center Campus, Senayan, Central Jakarta. The project leader of Bijac no Matsuri, Vincentius Christopher, explains that BINUS International wants to introduce the theme of diversity, especially from different cultures and countries, within the students’ community. “The event showcases the creativity of Japanese Culture Club BINUS International in introducing Japanese culture to students and also to the public in general,” Vincentius says. Indeed, the crowd seems to love the event. Hundreds of people swarm on the main lobby of JWC Campus. “We are optimistic to acquire 100 to 200 participants in one day. I would say that this event is different with previous events. We used to create events like this exclusively for internal students, and now we want to try to go public by inviting participants from a bigger community,” Vincentius says. He explained that for this event his team invites several communities outside BINUS. “There’s Nendonesia, a community for Japanese figure enthusiasts. There’s also an Indonesian game fighting community which intends to organize their own Indonesia Fighting Games Championship,” Vincentius says. In IFGC, they organize several fighting-game competitions. “We have competitions for Tekken, King of Fighter and Marvel vs Capcom. We have a total of six fighting-game competitions,” Vincentius says. According to Vincentius, the public are quite enthusiastic about participating in these fighting-games. For each game, there are at least 70 participants. All these communities, Vincentius says, gather in one event, which is Bijac no Matsuri. In addition, the event also comes with its own Japanese Culture Exhibition and Bijac Cafe. “What’s interesting, in JWC’s basement we have the Obake House which is filled with Japanese ghosts. All participants can give it a try,” Vincentius says. With this event, Vincentius hopes BINUS International Japanese Culture Club can expand and grow. “This is in line with our mission to be one of the most prestigious Japanese culture clubs in Jakarta," Vincentius concludes. They will visit BINUS University, BINUS Square, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, Kota Tua, shopping malls and also Bogor. “We hope this program can give positive contributions for both universities. Hopefully Woosong students can learn more about the culture in our country. On the other hand, BINUS students can also learn from their Korean friends,” says Laily Alfa Citra, BINUS University International Office Manager. The student visit from Woosong, sponsored by the Korean Embassy in Indonesia, is designed as a short course program. The purpose is for participants to learn more about Indonesian culture and development and at the same time acquaint themselves with Indonesian students, lecturers and leaders. In addition to 34 students and 4 lecturers from Woosong, BINUS Student Transnational Ambassadors (BINUS STARs) will also participate in the event as International Buddies. Members of BINUS STARs are BINUS University students who have participated in short courses or student exchange programs abroad. “The theme for the program is Why Indonesia is Important for South Korea. This theme was also chosen by Mr. Ony Avrianto Jamhari as the Regional Manager, Global Center, Woosong University. With this theme, hopefully Korean students can learn more about Indonesia,” Laily says. On Cultural Night, participants from both universities carry out several presentations. With these presentations, participants are able to share their experience, especially on specific areas such as leadership, community, internationalization, academic and non-academic issues. In the program, which is conducted at BINUS International Campus, The Joseph Wibowo Center (JWC), there are also notable performances such as Saman Dance, K-Pop Dance and acoustic shows. (RA)
