Rules for EFFECTIVE PRESENTATIONS<\/u><\/p>\n

  1. When creating, think about:\n
      \n
    • Your audience -how much do they know?<\/li>\n
    • The venue: How large? Shape?<\/li>\n
    • What technology will you be using?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
        \n
      1. Don\u2019t be too<\/u> Humor is OK! (depending on the topic.)<\/li>\n
      2. Use pictures. Reduce text. Almost everyone likes and remembers pictures.<\/li>\n
      3. Make it READABLE!<\/u> Consider 54+ point font size. Think of the people sitting in the back.<\/li>\n
      4. Limit<\/u> bullet points (5\u00b1 maximum) & slides (20\u00b1 maximum, depending on topic).<\/li>\n
      5. AVOID<\/u> It\u2019s usually unattractive- photos, art, charts, graphs (if<\/u> clear, see #7) are better.<\/li>\n
      6. Make sure all charts & graphs are understandable<\/u> and easily<\/u> readable (see #4.) Labels must be large enough.<\/li>\n
      7. AVOID<\/u> slow transitions. Don\u2019t waste the audience\u2019s time. This is also true for Keynote<\/em> and<\/li>\n
      8. KEEP IT <\/u> Go for simple, clearly designed slides.<\/li>\n
      9. Edit & PRACTICE<\/u>! Save (in more than one place, for example \u2018the cloud\u2019) Check spelling & grammar, then edit, practice and save again. Repeat!<\/li>\n
      10. Look at your audience, NOT the screen, and smile!<\/li>\n
      11. Arrive early <\/u>to check. Remember not all computers or projectors are the same.<\/li>\n
      12. Dress appropriately.<\/li>\n
      13. Make sure all phones are silent.<\/li>\n
      14. Notes are OK but DON\u2019T read! A tablet can work well. (See rule #11.)<\/li>\n
      15. Think very carefully about your body language. Practice in a mirror or on video.<\/li>\n
      16. Just in case, prepare a Plan B. What will you do if the projector bulb burns out, or there is a power cut?<\/li>\n
      17. Pacing is important. Find a balance between fast and slow (see rule #1. Is the audience made up of native speakers?).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
