Embracing AI Responsibly: Language Center BINUS @Senayan and GPTZero Collaboration

In today’s era, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a familiar term in everyday conversation. Within the academic field, educators across the globe have been actively discussing how students use AI and debating the best way forward. When Generative AI (GenAI) first emerged in 2022, many schools and teachers responded with caution, choosing to ban its use in classrooms and assignments to avoid direct confrontation.
A few years on, however, educators have begun to adapt. Many, including those of us at the Language Center BINUS @Senayan, believe that AI should not, and cannot, be banned. Instead, we must evolve our teaching methods and assignment designs to meet the moment.
In collaboration with GPTZero, a team developing AI detection software, the Language Center hosted a workshop on two key topics: “AI Literacy” and “Responsible Use of AI in the Classroom.” The shared belief that AI must be used responsibly—especially in educational settings—brought both teams together to exchange ideas and best practices.
Michael Setiawan, Academic Operations Section Head of the Language Center, led a session on AI Literacy, a topic that will soon be introduced to students in Academic English courses. This initiative aims to help students understand both the benefits and risks of AI and how to use it responsibly. Michael also introduced GPTZero as a practical tool for lecturers and students alike to detect AI-generated content, verify citations and sources, and support students in proving the authorship of their written work.
Like GPTZero, the Language Center acknowledges the growing role of AI but remains committed to preserving what is human.
