He talks to us about getting the best out of his teams and why he advocates for cautious growth<\/em><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-meta coloured-c\"><span class=\"byline\">By\u00a0<span class=\"author vcard\"><a class=\"author url fn\" title=\"Posts by Megan Williams\" href=\"https:\/\/www.creativereview.co.uk\/landing-page\/megan-williams\/\" rel=\"author\">Megan Williams<\/a><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"hentry-date\">14\/09\/2022<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cOur starting point is that people hate advertising,\u201d says Pancho Cassis, partner and global chief creative officer of the lauded international agency David. \u201cWe wake up every day to come to the agency to try to do something that most people will hate, so we need to break that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At David, that approach looks like Corona Sunbrew, a 0% alcohol beer shot with vitamin D, or the skateboards developed for Activision\u2019s Scratch Board campaign to promote Tony Hawk\u2019s Pro Skater, which reveal prizes when the skateboard decks are scuffed \u2013 just like a scratch card. And then there\u2019s the slew of projects for Burger King: the equal parts clever and \u00addivisive\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.creativereview.co.uk\/burger-king-mould-ad\/\">Moldy Whopper campaign<\/a>;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.creativereview.co.uk\/burger-king-posters-plant-based-whopper\/\">Meat?<\/a>, a print campaign in which cuts of meat are in fact fleshy-looking vegetables; and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.davidtheagency.com\/works\/en\/stevenage-challenge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Stevenage Challenge<\/a>, a clever link-up between Stevenage FC, Burger King and FIFA that got everybody talking about the League Two side (and its shirt sponsors: Burger King) via the video game.<\/p>\n<p>Advertising was baked into Cassis\u2019 system from a young age, partly down to his father being an ad man himself who eventually became a de facto mentor to his son. \u201cIt was crazy because all my friends wanted to be rock stars and football players or whatever, and I wanted to be advertising, advertising, advertising,\u201d he remembers. \u201cBut my dad was already seeing the shift in the business. He always told me, no, please do something else \u2013 this is going to hell!
