Jakarta \u2013 In celebration of the 79th Anniversary of Indonesia\u2019s Independence and the 50th Anniversary of Hotel Borobudur Jakarta, the cultural community Negeri Rempah<\/em> hosted a meaningful and relaxed discussion event themed: \u201cThe Art of the Betawi People and Jakarta\u2019s Past.\u201d<\/em> This event served as an opportunity to revisit the cultural and historical roots of the capital city through compelling narratives presented by distinguished speakers specializing in culture, history, and the arts.<\/p>\n

Set in a warm and informal atmosphere, participants were invited to engage in conversations and enjoy in-depth discussions on the rich cultural heritage of the Betawi people\u2014from traditional performing arts such as lenong<\/em> and gambang kromong<\/em> music, to traditional clothing and distinctive cuisine that form an integral part of Jakarta\u2019s identity. Furthermore, the speakers explored the historical journey of Jakarta, from its colonial past to its transformation into the modern metropolitan city it is today.<\/p>\n

This event also served as a moment of reflection on Jakarta\u2019s significant role as a strategic point along the historic Spice Route<\/em>, a global trade network that introduced a wealth of cultural influences to the archipelago. Through a localized cultural lens, the discussions also highlighted the vital contributions of the Betawi community in preserving diversity and enriching Indonesia\u2019s cultural legacy.<\/p>\n

More than a space for cultural appreciation, the event embodied a collaborative spirit of heritage preservation, public education, and national pride. The active role of Negeri Rempah<\/em> as a cultural community movement underscores the importance of collective efforts in safeguarding historical memory through relevant and engaging approaches.<\/p>\n
