<\/p>\nTANGERANG SELATAN \u2013 Championing grassroots sustainability and environmental literacy, the BINUS Finance International Program actively collaborated in the World Cleanup Day (WCD) Banten 2026 initiative held at Kampung Mantul, Dadap Timur, South Tangerang. Blending environmental stewardship with early financial and resource literacy, the event engaged both children and local households in hands-on waste sorting and circular valuation.<\/p>\n

EcoRead: Blending Language Literacy with Circular Economics
\nAt the center of the activities was EcoRead, a flagship program organized in partnership with eco-community ReBloom, spearheaded by Marsha Safira Noor Idara from BINUS School Serpong as the ReBloom coordinator and volunteer of Jaya Danakirti wastebank. Through interactive storytelling, games, and donated English-language books, children built foundational language skills while learning environmental responsibility.<\/p>\n
To demonstrate circular economy principles in a direct, relatable manner, the program featured a “Pay with Waste” (Membayar dengan Sampah) system. Children brought and sorted recyclable household items as their entry to literacy and creative workshops. This mechanism introduced young learners to tangible asset valuation\u2014teaching that sorted post-consumer materials hold economic value and can serve as functional currency within community systems.<\/p>\n
“World Cleanup Day is far more than just cleaning up waste,” stated Lufianto, Leader of WCD Banten. “Our goal is to help communities understand that waste must be sorted, valued, and managed right from the source.”<\/p>\n
Measurable Community Impact & Practical Empowerment
\nThe event combined educational initiatives with on-the-ground environmental impact:<\/p>\n
Organic Waste Solutions (Ngompos Pot): Local homemakers received hands-on training in household composting using simple flowerpot setups, addressing organic waste diversion at the domestic level.<\/p>\n
Direct Cleanup Action: Volunteers, students, and residents gathered and sorted 59 kilograms of recyclable waste, channeling it directly into recycling pipelines rather than local landfills.<\/p>\n
Bank Sampah Sevilla BSD Hub Visit: Participating students\u2014including from SMA St. Johannes Berchmans PIK2\u2014toured the Shelter Bank Sampah Sevilla BSD to observe firsthand how decentralized community waste banks operate as grassroots micro-economic engines.<\/p>\n

Strong Multi-Stakeholder Collaboration
\nThe cross-sector effort brought together a dedicated coalition, including the BINUS Finance International Program, ReBloom led by Marsha Safira Noor Idara (BINUS School Serpong), Bank Sampah Jaya DanaKirti, SMA St. Johannes Berchmans PIK2, local youth and residents of Dadap Timur, as well as corporate partners including Sinar Mas Land.<\/p>\n
