Collaborative Online International Learning Project
Over the past three months (March – June 2022), our students who are taking Managerial Accounting course in this semester participated in a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) project. This project aims to unite students in two (or more) countries to enhance understanding of working in global virtual teams and development of intercultural skills. Students are required to work in international teams and to collaborate on assigned tasks. The intended learning outcomes of this project are:
- Working in an international team on a case in management accounting
- Solving management accounting issues
- Mitigate cultural differences to connect with each other
- Explain opportunities and pitfalls in working with global teams
- Use/choose appropriate digital tools to create effective interactions
- Improve English communication skills
- Compare and contrast study habits, ambition, planning and communication skills
Our students collaborated with students from three institutions: Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (HVA – Hogeschool van Amsterdam, The Netherlands), Hogeschool Gent (Hogent, Belgium), and Technical University of Ostrava (VSB, Czech Republic). Each group was assigned a case study on cost/managerial accounting topic. At the end of the project, each group had to submit a final report and present their work in a defense session.
We do hope that our students gained valuable experience from working with other students from different nationalities. This project is an example of various international exposure that students will get during their study in our program.
