Webinar and Research Clinic Session

Publishing research is one of the main tasks of lecturers, yet from time to time, lecturers struggle to publish their research in reputable journals. This could be due to the different perspectives between authors and journal reviewers of what constitutes a good article. Therefore, our program conducted a webinar and research clinic session entitled “Why Do Papers Get Rejected, and How to Improve the Likelihood of Acceptance?”, which was held on Wednesday, 14 July 2021, via Zoom. The speaker of this event was Professor Jo Danbolt, PhD., who is the Baillie Gifford Chair in Financial Markets and Head of Accounting & Finance Group, University of Edinburgh Business School, as well as a distinguished international journal reviewer. This event was moderated by Rosaline Tandiono, PhD., one of our subject content coordinators.

Some of the discussion points during the webinar were:

  • Research questions and contributions
  • Research design
  • Style and writing
  • The front end
  • Selecting target journal
  • Read and reflect on reviews
  • Revise and resubmit
  • Response letter

In the second session, Prof. Danbolt conducted a research clinic/ workshop on a sample paper, where he gave comments on how to improve the paper. We hope that this event can motivate the participants (lecturers) to publish their research in reputable journals.
