Mapping the Road to Strengthen the Economy Post Pandemic

Covid-19 pandemic has caused the Indonesian economy and activities in various sectors to slow down. Despite the economic shock caused by Covid-19 pandemic has been gradually easing off as domestic financial market stabilized and several economic sectors have been starting to wake up, however due to its nature that hits both the supply and demand sides of the economy, much time is still needed for recovery. At the same time, we have not seen any signs that the spread of the virus will end soon, as there are still increasing trends in confirmed cases and deaths. On one side, there is an increasing demand to reopen social and economic activities as marked by the relaxation of social distancing in various areas. On the other side, public health infrastructure is still not adequate. Therefore, there is a high risk involved in running again various social and economic activities normally. With these limitations, new normal is a must. New normal is also an opportunity to strengthen the economy, as long as it is accompanied by a transparent development of priorities as well as proper coordination and synchronization of policies.
