Innovation ecosystem

Opportunity arise from a favourable combination of circumstances, hence a supportive eco-system increases the likelihood of innovation, as opposed to one or two factors assigned to promote innovation. The first phase of the Technology Innovation Ecosystem Benchmarking Study found that seven factors were identified by experts to contribute to the success of a university ecosystem:

  1.     An institutionalized entrepreneurship and innovation culture.
  2.     Strength of university leadership in establishing an ecosystem.
  3.     University research capability.
  4.     Local or regional quality of life.
  5.     Regional or government support.
  6.     Effective institutional strategy.
  7.     Powerful student-led entrepreneurship drive.

The methodology is very qualitative, so these factors could mean very different things. Anyways, the top 10 in this study were: MIT, Stanford, Cambridge, Imperial, Oxford, Technion, ETH, NUS, TUM, UC Berkeley, KTH.

How would Indonesian institutions fare on these factors?
