Start Young to Innovate 2012 BINUS INTERNATIONAL

AIM

In this knowledge-based economy era, BINUS INTERNATIONAL recognizes the importance of innovation as one of the main determinants of competitiveness. The School of Information Systems of BINUS International strives to nurture innovation among young people, so an international competition to challenge undergraduate university IT and IS students was launched last year. This is the second time  Start Young to Innovate has called upon the younger generation to present their innovative ICT solutions and this year they can exchange ideas with their peers from other countries. Last year, in 2011, we only invited high school students in Indonesia.

THEME

The students with innovative ideas to solve problems in the following categories are invited to submit their ideas to the competition website:

AWARD and PRIZES

  • 1 Gold Award – US$ 1,000*
  • 1 Silver Award – US$ 700*
  • 1 Bronze Award – US$ 500*

* Excludes bank transfer fee

Each member of the winning team will receive a certificate.

The panel of judges

Entries will be judged by a panel of judges consisting of  academic scholars.

Entry Submission Requirement – All materials must be in English

The competition invites undergraduate university students from IT/IS Department for ideas submission through this website.

Competition Rules & Guidelines

  • The contest is open to all students currently enrolled in undergraduate programs at accredited colleges or universities worldwide, but one of the team members should belong to the IT/IS Department.
  • The innovation ideas only need to be well-formulated ideas. Contestants do not need to physically implement their ideas, but illustrations are encouraged.
  • The ideas can be inspired by existing technology, so long as it does not replicate or fully copy an existing  product.
  • Contestants may apply individually or as a team (maximum 3 people).
  • Submissions will only be accepted electronically via the online submission form.
  • Each university/team can submit as many ideas as they like.

Judging Criteria

Here is a list of questions the judges base their decisions on:

  • How bold/fresh is the concept?
  • How persuasive and coherent is the concept?
  • How does the concept solve the problem?
  • How compelling are the concepts’ quantitative and qualitative benefits?
  • Does the product have “green” environmental features?
  • How does the concept provide a unique competitive advantage?
  • What are the risks? Are these risks addressed?

Other Notes

The Start Young to Innovate Committee reserves the right to make any changes to this document (dates, dateline, requirement, etc) as long as these changes benefit the majority of the entrants in the competition. Any modification will be announced on the Start Young To Innovate 2012 official website. It is the responsibility of each team to regularly check for updates

Ownership and Intellectual Property

When submitting your proposal to the Start Young To Innovate competition, you will remain the sole owner of the intellectual property of your proposal. However, Start Young To Innovate committee reserves the right to use the received material for marketing and promotional purposes. The Start Young To Innovate Committee also has the right to modify any of the mentioned materials so as to better adapt it to the different formats and layouts that different promotional mediums might required.
