Three Srikandis from Finance Program Win Deloitte Merger & Acquisition (M&A) Challenge 2019

Shania Hidajat, Natasya Naharto, and Qonita Zahra, three students from the Finance Program of BINUS INTERNATIONAL, won the recently held Deloitte Merger & Acquisition (M&A) Challenge 2019 – an annual prestigious competition that was held by a top accounting firm and consultant, Deloitte International – on Friday, 22 November 2019.

The BINUS INTERNATIONAL team got through three tough rounds before reaching the final round and winning the competition. The first round was submitting the teaser poster related to the case study of a cosmetics industry company. The team had to compile the pro forma financial statements, a market trend forecast, and a competitive map in the cosmetics industry. More than 100 participants from various prominent universities participated in this round.

In the second round, ten teams were selected and asked to be present at the Deloitte Indonesia headquarters. There, the participants received coaching about the due diligence and merger & acquisition process from Deloitte’s senior consultant team. At the end of the day, they were given a case study of a company that planned to do a merger and acquisition.

Afterwards, in the third round, the ten finalists presented their views and suggestions regarding the case. Through a tough competition, the Finance Program from BINUS INTERNATIONAL successfully won over the competitors from the University of Indonesia, Prasetiya Mulya University, and IPMI, and obtained the first place trophy as well as an IDR 18 million reward.

Yen Sun, the Head of the Finance Program at BINUS INTERNATIONAL, said that this win was the result of everyone’s hard work. “The students were so tenacious and full of spirit in preparing themselves under the guidance of the lecturers at BINUS INTERNATIONAL,” she said.

The learning system at BINUS INTERNATIONAL, she continued, prioritizes case studies, interactive discussions, and presentations in class. “Therefore, the students get used to facing competitions that require accuracy, analytical thinking, and presentation skills, like the Deloitte Merger & Acquisition (M&A) Challenge,” she concluded.
