Indonesia’s BINUS University aims to become academic destination of choice for international students and partners

Academic institution celebrates its 35th anniversary, while many of its former students go on to find jobs with global companies or become entrepreneurs

As global economic power shifts towards Asia’s growing economies, Indonesia’s BINUS University commemorates its 35th year as a key player in the country’s intellectual landscape with a vision to influence the world.

The university’s strong foundation in information technology, competitive curricula, international collaborations and foreign exchange programmes showcase its commitment to become the next academic destination of choice for international students and partners.

“In 2008, we started Vision 2020 – to shape tomorrow’s leaders by providing relevant world-class education,” says Dr Harjanto Prabowo, rector and professor in management information systems. “This year, we are moving forward with an anniversary campaign comprised of events and road shows in line with our aim of truly going global.”

With more than 50 high-calibre academic programmes, BINUS offers a vast range of study options. BINUS Business School targets executives seeking graduate study, while BINUS International and its joint ventures BINUS ASO School of Engineering (Japan) and BINUS Northumbria School of Design (Britain) offer undergraduates hands-on and globally relevant courses in the fields of business, accounting, computer science, hospitality, media, design and engineering.

Originally founded as a computer training school, BINUS has evolved into a multiawarded institute of higher learning with five campuses equipped with modern facilities. From air-conditioned classrooms with LCD projectors to sophisticated laboratories such as BINUS TV, BINUS continuously strives towards employing innovative teaching methods and upholding international standards. The university hosted the welcoming ceremony for INDOPED, a project for the localised transfer of the European Union’s best teaching practices.

In line with its motto “establishing the future through science and technology”, BINUS welcomes partnerships with institutions and international businesses. It already maintains academic tie-ups with more than 100 universities and partnerships with companies such as Google, Microsoft and Cisco.

“By the time our students graduate, 72 per cent of them are able to secure jobs,” Prabowo says. “Our goal is to have two out of three students employed in global companies or become entrepreneurs.”
